Hi, I'm Terrie.
I help students pursue their academic, career, and personal goals.
Dr. Terrie Shipley is a visiting professor at The University of Tulsa. She is also an independent education consultant, helping students with college and career planning.
She cares deeply about higher education and career advising and has perhaps too many opinions about the future.
Terrie earned a doctorate in Educational Administration from The University of Oklahoma, a master’s in Education from Michigan State University, and bachelor’s degrees in Journalism and Political Science from Syracuse University. She is a member of NCDA (career development), HECA (education planning) and GPACAC (admission counseling).
A couple of fun, college-related facts: Terrie met her husband as a rising college sophomore during living-learning community Resident Advisor training. Also, she loves visiting colleges—200 and counting!
Formerly, Terrie was Associate Director of the Youth Philanthropy Initiative; a university admissions counselor, academic advisor, and student affairs officer; and an English teacher in Spain and China. A California native, she has Chinese, German-Jewish, and Norwegian heritage and can speak conversational Spanish and Cantonese.
Terrie was named an Oklahoma Magazine Top 40 Under 40 (2016) and is a graduate of Leadership Tulsa (Class 46). She is the mother of two spirited toddlers and is an active volunteer in areas of diversity + inclusion, innovative education, the arts, and mental health. For kicks and to help people branch out, she writes for The Tulsa Voice about food and culture.
One on one. Always.
Dr. Shipley has worked with students from most high schools in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City metro areas. She also works virtually for out-of-state families.
